Standard Server Roles and Responsibilities

This page describes the typical roles and responsibilities relating to our servers.  There may be exceptions on a case-by-case basis.  Any exceptions should be approved by a supervisor and well-documented.

*Servers in the saccounty.net domain are patched and managed by DTech and follow the security model (Dev=Open, Test=Prod, Prod=No Access)

Maintain SQL and SSRS - Physical Servers

Maintain SQL server, manage databases, import SSIS projects into the SSIS package store, schedule SQL jobs, and troubleshoot issues. Add/remove SSRS users from reports and maintain SSRS

Collaborate with the Apps Team as needed

Maintain SQL and Oracle Reg San - Virtual Servers

Maintain SQL server, manage databases and troubleshoot issues.

Maintain SQL  SD - Virtual Servers

Maintain SQL server, manage databases and troubleshoot issues.

SQL Patching - Physical Servers

Install, test and troubleshoot patches

Maintain IIS - Physical Servers

Maintain IIS, manage websites and troubleshoot issues caused by IIS

Maintain IIS, manage websites and troubleshoot issues caused by IIS

DTech IIS Admin Team


Maintain Web Applications

Troubleshoot web applications issues that are not caused by IIS

Apps Team

Vender web application issues may require DTech IIS Admin Team, Ops Team, Apps Team, and Vendor support responsibility

Configure and maintain scheduled tasks on the server

Programs that are running through a scheduled task on the server

Ops Team

Some of these scheduled tasks are run as accounts that no other groups have access to.

Understanding database needs for applications

Understanding what database configuration and maintenance needs are for each application database.

Apps Team

This may require collaboration with the Ops Team to assist with troubleshooting, recommendations,  and resolution for  application issues related to database performance or maintenance needs

Execute SQL scripts

Execute Scripts (views, functions, stored procedures, etc.) which are provided by Developers

Ops Team


SQL Database Access

Grant read permissions to Users on Databases, if they have any database permission issues on viewing the Reports.

Ops Team


Proactively Monitor Servers and Databases

For example, monitor available disk space.
