How to use a Jira project where the Components field is connected to the CMDB

This information is helpful when you use a Jira project where the Components field includes entries that represent object types in the CMDB.

Step-by-step guide

To enter a ticket when the configuration item already exists in the CMDB

  1. Select a component that represents the type of configuration item you are changing.
  2. In the Affected CI/s field, you will see a list of configuration items matching the component selected - select the item you are changing.  If the task is to create a new configuration item, add the item to the CMDB first.

Example

When a DNS entry needs to be changed for an existing domain, the ticket would look like this:


All changes made to a configuration item (CI) should be recorded in a Jira issue linked to that CI using the Affected CI/s field.
